Our Mission

Our mission at One-Room Education is to empower parents, students, and teachers to create a more free and prosperous future for everyone through advocacy of classical education, individual responsibility and ownership over your own education.

Here at One-Room Education, it is our passion to help empower every person to find their inner lifelong learner through helping them understanding the pitfalls of the modern education system and how they can take back control of their educational destiny.

Our Story

vine-divider-green

One-Room Education was founded in January, 2022 by Katie J.

One-Room Education grew out of the frustrations of a certified teacher turned private tutor who just wanted to help as many people as possible learn how to learn.

After seeing how the public education system had changed after the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001, Katie looked back to her early education as a homeschooled student. She talked with her parents, who had taught her until high school, and decided to become a private tutor full-time in 2015.

Seeing more and more students coming to her struggling with their basic academics in English, History and Science, she knew she had to do something. That’s when the idea for One-Room Education was born.

There were several issues that seemed to be common place with Katie’s tutoring students:

  1. A lack of basic study skills.
  2. A lack of basic notetaking skills.
  3. A lack of competent, passionate teachers in the field of actual education, not just their content topics.

With this in mind, Katie set out to build something new. Something that simply didn’t exist. A place that empowered everyone, parents, students, and teachers alike, to take back the education system and bring it back to its roots.

Katie wanted to empower parents with the knowledge that they were enough, and that they were capable of educating their children…even if they didn’t have a degree.

She wanted to empower students with the knowledge and skills to go out and learn what they were interested in on their own. Teachers come in all forms and they just needed to be able to find the right people to help them reach their goals.

She also wanted to empower the professional educators of America and let them know that they weren’t standing alone and that they didn’t need to remain quiet any more about changes and policies they didn’t agree with and knew were detrimental to their students.

It is up to every one of us to take control of our own educational destiny, whether that be in the academic world or in a garage as an automotive mechanic. It takes different skills to learn in different environments, and it is our job as the older generation to help guide the children of our nation, no matter which one you live in. It is our job to show them how to learn and analyze their environment and the things in it so that they may one day make the world a better place than they were given.
