Francis Cook: Course Creator and Content Contributor for One-Room Education and the Patriot Project

Hello, my name is Francis Cook. I am excited to join the team here with One-Room Education. One of my favorite quotes is attributed to Mark Twain, who said “don’t let school get in the way of your education.”

I was brought up in a typical American upbringing in the 80’s and 90’s. Born and raised in Orange Park, Florida with two siblings, living a middle-class life, went to school, went to church, had a good group of friends. High school bored me though and didn’t direct me to tap into my creativity or my full potential.

College did not serve me well either. Due largely to lack of guidance, I dropped out of college and went straight into the workforce. Since then, I have acquired my associate in arts degree from Florida Southwestern College. This degree is just a piece of paper however and I have taken a “home school” approach to my own adult education.

I’ve taken online courses on public speaking, critical thinking, real estate investing, sales, and marketing. I’ve attended in-person seminars on the same topics and am always open to increase my knowledge on all subjects that bring more value to my life.

I am now a “home school” parent after my daughter went to a highly acclaimed charter school for her first six years of formal schooling. My problem with the charter school, and with the school system in general, is that it teaches students what to think and not how to think.

My role with one-room education will be as an online teacher of American history and America’s founding documents. While I don’t have a formal education in politics or government, I do have on the ground experience that qualifies me to teach the Constitution, the structure of government, how to assert your rights, and many more aspects of the principles of freedom that the united States of America is founded upon.

My courses will provide students with a wealth of knowledge about all of the foundational documents that the USA is built upon with an emphasis on how this knowledge is applicable today. It’s been said that knowledge is power, but I disagree. Knowledge is potential power.

I am excited to be able to teach the principles of freedom in a way that empowers students to uphold the Constitution and assert their own rights and liberties.
